My pressure cooker's seal gave out right as I started a big batch of beans

Happened last Tuesday, right when I was about to save a ton on dried chickpeas. Had to pivot fast and soak them overnight, then simmer them for three hours on the stove, which totally blew my gas budget for the month. Anyone have a good source for replacement gaskets that won't cost more than the beans?

Actually, in my experience those universal seals can be hit or miss. A bad fit means no pressure and more wasted gas.

Man, "blew my gas budget for the month" hits hard, I felt that. Have you checked if the manufacturer sells the seal directly? Sometimes they're way cheaper than buying a whole new gasket kit from a kitchen store. I had a similar thing happen and found the part number stamped on the old ring.

Good tip about checking the manufacturer, but most pressure cooker seals are universal fit. The part number trick works better for older models or specific brands.
