That popup restaurant in Portland had the wildest plating I've ever seen

I went to this underground chef dinner last month in Portland where the guy served a beef tartare on a literal rock. I mean like a smooth river stone, not even a plate underneath it. Has anyone else run into plating that just totally ignores practicality for the sake of looking artsy?

That rock tartare is a classic, but I'm more worried about the sanitation. You don't know where that stone has been. A buddy of mine went to a place that served soup in a hollowed-out tree branch and spent the whole meal wondering if the bark was food grade.

Wash it first if you're that worried, most stones handled in kitchens are fine.
