I used to think a basic wire brush was fine for every chimney, but a job in Burlington with a ton of creosote changed my mind.

Honestly, I had to use a special cleaner for mine (the bristles were totally gunked up).

A bar of dish soap and hot water works better than any fancy cleaner out there (and costs like two bucks). You're overcomplicating this whole thing.
