Was using a shop vac for years before I finally got a proper chimney soot collection setup

I used to just hook up a regular shop vac and a cheap flex hose to catch the creosote and soot. It worked but the filter clogged every single job and I was always breathing in dust. Last spring I bought a dedicated soot vac with a HEPA filter and a longer hose setup. Cost me around $450 but it changed everything. Now I can do a full cleanout and barely lift the bag twice. The old way added at least 20 minutes to every job just fighting the clogging. Has anyone else made the switch to a dedicated unit or are you still making do with a regular vac?
