I walk my dog on the West Side at 5:45am and everyone has the sidewalk etiquette backwards
I have been walking my lab mix around Edgewater and the Detroit Shoreline every morning for about a year now, and I keep seeing the same thing that drives me nuts. People with dogs always step INTO the grass when another dog walks by, like they are being polite, but that is exactly wrong. When you pull your dog into the grass, you are basically telling them something is about to happen, so they get tense and start lunging before the other dog even gets close. I tested this on purpose for a couple weeks. I kept my dog on the concrete, kept walking at a steady pace, said nothing, and just let us pass each other. Nine times out of ten both dogs just kept moving. The tenth time was a husky on Clifton that clearly just wanted to scream at the world, so that one was not on me. My neighbor Deb told me I was being rude for not yielding, but her dog barks at trash cans, so I am not taking that advice. Anyone else notice this, or am I the only one who thinks the grass move makes it worse?
