My neighbor in Lakewood said we should stop complaining about the new apartment building

Honestly, I was griping about the traffic and how it doesn't fit the street's look. She looked at me and said, 'Where do you think your own kids are gonna live if we block every new place?' Tbh, that hit different because my son is looking at places now and everything is so expensive. It made me see I was just being selfish about my own parking spot. Has anyone else had a talk that flipped their view on new development here?

Yeah, that "doesn't fit the street's look" part is what gets me. Most of our streets looked totally different 30 years ago, they're always changing. Your neighbor has a point.

Felt the same way when they put up that mixed-use building on my block. I fought it hard at first, but honestly, having a coffee shop and some cheaper rentals right there has been great for the whole area. What @the_elizabeth said is spot on about streets changing, we just get used to how things are right now. That neighbor of yours is pretty sharp for making it about our own families, makes it real. Did you end up talking to her more about it?
