Question about hitting 11 years on the same block in West Park, do you stay or cash out?
So last Tuesday I was pulling weeds in the front yard on my little street off Lorain Ave when it hit me that I have been in the same West Park house for 11 years this month. I know that sounds like nothing to some folks but when we bought in 2014 we told ourselves it was a starter place, five years tops, then we would look at Lakewood or Rocky River for the schools. Well, the schools turned out fine, the driveway still floods every spring, and now two of the houses next to us sold for numbers that made me choke on my coffee. Here is my debate with myself. One side says stay, we know every creak in these floors, the guy at the corner store knows our dog by name, and moving means throwing away a 3 percent rate on a place we can almost pay off. Other side says take the money, the taxes keep climbing, the roof is 19 years old, and honestly I am tired of shoveling that same sidewalk. My wife says we are crazy to even talk about it and my brother in Parma says we are crazy to stay. So for the folks who have been on the west side a long time, when you hit that kind of milestone did you stay put or did you finally go? And what actually made the call for you?
