I had to choose between a flight and a train for a trip to Chicago.
The flight was two hours but cost $350, while the train took eight hours and was $120. I picked the train, packed a book, and watched the countryside roll by. It was quiet and I felt good knowing my choice cut my travel emissions by over 80 percent. Has anyone else taken a longer trip by train and found it worth the extra time?

My cousin took the Amtrak from Seattle to Portland last month and said the same thing. She spent the whole trip just staring out the window at the mountains, said it was the most relaxed she'd been in years. I get that feeling, like you're actually going somewhere instead of just being shot through a tube. The quiet part is what sells me, planes are just loud metal cans full of stress lol.

Okay but is it really that different? You're still stuck in a seat for hours, just moving slower. I've done that route and spent half of it staring at the back of someone's head because the window seat was taken. The quiet is nice until a baby starts crying or someone's on a loud phone call the whole time. It's still just travel.
