A guy at the shop in Dayton said you can't teach an old dog new tricks about G-code
He was this older operator who refused to learn canned cycles, saying his way with longhand code was just as fast. I watched him spend 45 minutes writing a program I could do in 5 with a G71. Has anyone else run into this kind of stubbornness, and how do you handle it?

Ever think it's not about speed but about trust? Like, that old code is his safety net. If his longhand program crashes, he knows exactly which line to blame. A canned cycle is a black box to him, and if it goes wrong, he's lost. Vera_lewis has a point about job security, but I bet it's more about fear of looking dumb if the new trick fails. He'd rather be slow and sure than fast and confused. Seen it with guys who won't switch from manual to digital levels.

Maybe it's just me, but that stubbornness feels like job security for him.

Oh, I used to think that way too. But now I see it's more about being scared to fail.
