Dropped $600 on a probe and it was a dud

Bought a Renishaw style probe off ebay for $600 thinking I scored big. Worked fine for about 3 days then started giving false triggers like crazy. Tried cleaning it, swapping batteries, even adjusted the stylus force. Nothing fixed it. Now I'm stuck manually touching off every tool again and it's eating up my setup time. Anyone else get burned buying used inspection gear?

I had a similar issue with a used indicator and ended up taking the whole thing apart to clean the contacts with alcohol (which is way touchier than it sounds), and that actually fixed the false triggering for me. Maybe try a deep clean inside the probe body if you haven't already.

Yeah I gotta disagree a bit on taking it apart yourself. Once you crack open a probe like that, especially a Renishaw style one, you're pretty much voiding any chance of getting help from the seller or maybe even a return. I'd be trying to get my money back first, not digging into it with alcohol and hoping for the best.
