Just flushed $500 down the drain on a 'universal' collet set that couldn't hold a 3/8 endmill without slipping.

Has anyone found a decent brand for oddball tool holders that doesn't cost a fortune?

Honestly, that's just the cost of doing business. You get what you pay for with tooling, and a truly universal set for that price was always a gamble. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and buy the brand-name holder made for that specific shank size.

Yeah, learned that the hard way last year. Grabbed a cheap universal set and it just would not hold a cut. Ended up getting the proper Sandvik holder and it was night and day.

Lunab97 is right about it being the cost of doing business. I used to chase those cheap universal fixes for everything. After wrecking a few good end mills and a project piece, my view changed. Now I just save up for the single proper holder. The headache isn't worth the supposed savings.
