I needed a cheap workbench for my garage and a buddy told me to grab a solid core door from the Habitat ReStore. Found one for 20 bucks, it was already flat and heavy, way better than trying to level plywood. I screwed some 2x4 legs into it using those metal mending plates and it's been solid so far. The only issue was the door had a little hole where the knob goes, so I filled it with wood putty and sanded it smooth. Took me maybe two hours total to get it set up, and it's way sturdier than the particle board desk I was using before. Has anyone else tried using a door as a bench top, and did you do anything special to brace the middle section?

My coworker Linda told me six months ago to freeze bread to keep it from going stale. I thought she was crazy because I'd tried freezing bread before and it turned into a soggy mess. Turns out I was doing it wrong. I was just throwing the whole loaf in the freezer without slicing it first. Now I slice it, freeze it in a bag, and toast slices straight from the freezer. That $400 power stretcher I bought was a total waste

I bought a top of the line power stretcher for $400 last spring thinking it would speed up my big residential jobs. After using it on 6 houses, I still reach for my kicker 90% of the time because the power stretcher is just too bulky for tight spaces and stairs. Turns out the coils were probably shot or it was low on gas, and fixing it would cost more than a new one. So I basically paid 60 bucks to haul someone's trash to my basement and waste an afternoon. Man, I look back at how I used to fight with rusted bolts when I first started in the shop back in 2012.
