Saved 3 hours on a job yesterday by swapping to climb milling on my CNC

Was cutting a thick aluminum plate in St. Louis and kept getting chatter until I tried climb milling instead of conventional, and the finish was clean in one pass - has anyone else found certain materials just work better with climb milling?

Might not be as big of a deal as you think. Climb milling is standard practice for most shops on aluminum anyway, so saving 3 hours sounds like you were using the wrong setup from the start. Conventional milling on that material is asking for trouble with work hardening and tool deflection. Good you figured it out, but it's not some hidden secret.

Totally agree, I had the exact same wake-up call when I started cutting stainless. Made a huge mess with conventional and then switched to climb and it was like a whole different machine.
