Watching a vet adjust the coolant flow taught me more than a manual ever could.
I was having trouble with heat buildup on a stainless steel job yesterday. My shift partner, who's been running CNCs for 20 years, showed me how to adjust the coolant flow properly. The difference was instant, and the parts came out perfect. It's crazy how a small tip from someone with experience can fix a big issue. Makes me value the time we share tips on the floor.

Those old tricks can cause more problems sometimes! A manual gives you the right procedure every time, no guesswork. My buddy once used a "tip" and put the wrong coolant type in the whole system.

Honestly, some of those old tricks are solid though.

Yeah, it's like that with a lot of things... you need the manual for the basic rules, but the real feel comes from watching someone who knows. @the_ray has a point about bad tips causing messes, for sure. But I see it like cooking or fixing a car... the book tells you the steps, but a good cook shows you when it's actually done. That shared know-how is what keeps stuff running smooth.
