I finally had to choose between a new grinder and a vacation weekend

My old grinder started making a sound like a dying robot, and I had $400 saved. I picked the grinder, a Baratza Encore, and now my morning pour-over is perfect but my friends are in Portland without me. Anyone else ever had to make a coffee gear choice that felt a little ridiculous?

Ngl the fact that your friends are probably waiting in line for overpriced cold brew in Portland while you're at home making perfect pour-overs is the real joke here. Grinder upgrade wins every time, that portable espresso machine you see at every Airbnb just doesn't hit the same. Besides, Portland isn't going anywhere but your burrs are fresh and those beans are getting the treatment they deserve. Tell your friends to bring you back a sticker from the coffee shop and call it even.

Ngl the "bring you back a sticker" part is perfect. That's really all you need from a coffee shop anyway.
