Overheard a barista in Denver tell someone their espresso was 'sour, not bright'

I mean, I always just called acidic coffee 'sour' as a bad thing. She explained it's about the specific type of acidity, like citrus versus vinegar. Has anyone else had a moment that made you taste your usual cup differently?

Yeah, sour is just unpleasant acidity, while bright is a good, fruity kind.

So we're just calling bad coffee sour now and good coffee bright? What happens when you get a fruity coffee that's also too sharp and unpleasant, is it both? This feels like a fancy way to avoid saying a cup is just poorly made.
