The day I found out I was wiping my bike chain wrong for 8 years
I was at a shop in Portland last month watching a guy lube his chain after a ride. He wiped the chain with a rag after applying oil, not before. I had been doing the opposite, just piling wet lube on top of old grime. Has anyone else had a simple maintenance habit they never questioned?

Oh man, that's such a classic example of how we all learn one way and just run with it forever. It's wild how many simple tasks have this hidden 'right' way that nobody tells you about. I've noticed it happens a lot with cooking stuff too, like I was salting pasta water wrong for years because I thought you just add it at the end. It's almost like we're all just making stuff up as we go and hoping it works. What would you say is the most common mistake you see people making with their gear?
