Back in 2009 an older collector at a con in Philly handed me a beat up issue of Swamp Thing
He just said "read this one slow, kid" and walked off. I still think about that moment when I start rushing through a stack. Anybody else have a random stranger change how you read comics?

Huh, I mean I get the appeal of slowing down and all, but honestly I feel like that kind of advice can backfire too. Like if I'm reading a classic Alan Moore issue of Swamp Thing where the art by Steve Bissette and John Totleben is packed with detail, sure, taking it slow makes sense. But I've had guys at cons tell me to "savor" a random issue of X-Force from the 90s and I just can't do it. Some comics are meant to be breezed through, you know? The decompressed storytelling in a lot of modern stuff practically begs you to rush if you want to get any story out of it. Maybe it's just me but I think slowing down can sometimes make a mediocre comic feel even worse when you notice all the flaws.

Three guys at my local diner told me to "savor" a fast food burger last week, same vibe.
