I finally wasted $120 on a 'collector's edition' comic box set that fell apart in a week

Man, I saw this 80s X-Men omnibus collection at a shop in Austin last month, looked so clean in the plastic wrap. Paid $120 thinking I was getting a solid piece for my shelf, but the binding split on day three when I was just flipping through the first issue. Then the spine straight up cracked and pages started sliding out like loose change. I know floppies are more fragile, but this was a hardcover, supposed to last. Guess I should've checked the print run year, turned out it was one of those budget reprints from 2018. Has anyone else gotten burned by fancy packaging that hides cheap glue work? Thinking of sticking to digital trades now, but I miss the paper feel.

Ugh, same thing with a Batman hardcover. Glue job was a total joke, pages fell out everywhere.
