Reading trades vs single issues, my 5 year flip-flop after a $60 mistake

For years I only bought single issues at my LCS, loved the monthly ritual. But after a move I missed 6 months of a run and had to drop like $60 on back issues just to catch up. That hurt. So I switched to trades for a while, but honestly I felt out of the loop with ongoing discussions week to week. Now I do a mix: singles for my top 3 titles, trades for everything else. Am I the only one who can't commit to one format? How do you all handle the cost and the wait?

Ever notice how switching formats is like changing your coffee order, the second you commit something else starts looking better? I did the exact same dance but it was a $45 gap in a Daredevil run that broke me, ended up selling half my singles to a guy who only reads digital. Now I just grab whatever catches my eye that week and let my pull list rot if I'm broke, honestly it's chaos but at least I stopped adding up the receipts.
