Our town's park cleanup showed me why volunteering matters
I skipped our town's park cleanup day year after year. It seemed like a waste of a Saturday. But last spring, my friend dragged me along to help. We filled over fifty bags of litter in just three hours! I also got to know people from different parts of our community. Now I look forward to these events and even help organize them. It's shown me how working together can really improve our shared spaces!

That's actually a perfect example of how small, boring tasks build the habit of showing up. People fixate on the visible trash instead of the invisible muscle of doing something regular for your town. The real change is just getting more folks into that rhythm of helping, even when it feels pointless.

Yeah, it's nice for a weekend, but let's be real. Those fifty bags just fill up again in like two weeks. It feels good to see it clean for a minute, but it doesn't fix why people litter in the first place. You're just doing a free job the town should be handling with our taxes. I'm not saying it's bad to help, but calling it some big community changer is a stretch. It's mostly just moving trash from one place to another.
