Volunteer check-in app crashed during our food bank rush

Last Saturday at the Maple Street pantry we had 80 volunteers show up and the sign-in system went down, so people were standing around with no jobs while donations piled up. I ended up pulling out a paper clipboard and assigning everyone by hand in 20 minutes, but we lost a solid hour of sorting time. Has anyone else had a digital tool fail right at the worst moment, and what did you fall back on?

Man, that clipboard move is exactly what I would have done. We had our whole check-in app freeze during a school supply drive once and I just grabbed a legal pad and started shouting out names in groups of ten. Ended up being faster than the app ever was, honestly.
