Bus pass or bike lock, I went with the bike and my legs hate me
My bus route got cut last month so I had to pick between a $78 monthly pass for a transfer-heavy route or dusting off my old commuter bike. I chose the bike for the 6 mile ride and it's been brutal, especially that hill near the river where I basically crawl at 5 mph. Yesterday a truck passed me way too close and I almost ended up in a ditch, but I also saved the money and I'm not sitting in someone's leftover fast food smell every morning. Has anyone else switched to two wheels and actually stuck with it, or did you cave back to the bus? I keep wondering if I'm just being stubborn.

Bus pass sounds like the smarter deal honestly. That close call with the truck is exactly the kind of thing that makes you wonder if saving forty bucks a month is worth risking your neck. Your bike might be free but the repair costs when a pothole wrecks your wheel or you need new brake pads every season, those add up fast. Plus that hill you hate isn't going anywhere, and it's only going to get worse when it rains or snows. You're not being stubborn, you're being cheap with your time and your safety. The bus might smell like old fries, but at least it keeps you on the road and off the shoulder.
