I bought a monthly bus pass right before they announced a price freeze

Paid $85 for it on the 28th, and the transit authority announced the freeze the next morning. Anyone else have timing this bad with fare changes?

My old car needed new tires in late October. I dropped a grand on a full set, and then it got totaled by a deer two weeks later. The insurance check didn't cover the tires, obviously. Felt like I just lit that money on fire.

Man, grant540, that's the worst kind of bad luck. I had a buddy who did the same thing with brakes right before a wreck. You can sometimes argue with the insurance adjuster about recent big repairs, like those new tires. It doesn't always work, but if you have the receipt, it's worth a shot to call them back. They might bump up the total loss value a little bit. It still stings, but maybe you can recover a couple hundred bucks.

Ugh, that's brutal. I once put a brand new battery in my car and then sold it for scrap like a month later because the transmission died. Felt like I paid a hundred bucks just to make the junkyard guy's day a little better.
