Pro tip: the 6:15 AM express bus driver told me I was sitting in the wrong seat every morning for 2 years.

She said the left side by the window is for people getting off at the first 3 stops, so I switched to the right side and now I save about 8 minutes a day since the doors open on that side first. Has anyone else had a driver give them a route tip like that?

That bus driver changed your whole commute. Rough being told you're wrong for two years though. Made me rethink my whole bus strategy. Always just sat wherever was open. Never thought about door side or stop patterns. Makes sense now, they know their route better than anyone.

Honestly the "never thought about door side" part hit me. I used to think bus drivers were just cranky and making up rules. Like I'd sit wherever and roll my eyes if they said something. But after reading this I realize they actually memorize the whole route and stop patterns. Now I watch where the regulars sit and copy them. Saves me from scrambling across the aisle when the doors open on the opposite side. Feels dumb I never noticed before.
