Vent: inspector flagged my broom finish 3 weeks back, still got paid

Older inspector out in El Paso walks my driveway job and says my broom lines are too shallow because I used a fine broom from the supply house, but he signed off anyway after I put down a heavier drag on the last pass. He then said half the crews he sees are too scared to ask the paint store what grit they actually need, so what do you guys run for broom depth on outdoor slabs in dry climates?

That bit about crews being scared to ask the paint store is spot on. Most guys just grab whatever broom the counter guy hands them and never think twice. I run a medium bristle broom for the first pass, then switch to a coarse one for the final drag. Gives you enough texture to actually grip but not so deep it looks like a field of furrows. In dry heat, the surface dries fast, so you gotta work in smaller sections and keep the broom wet or the lines start skipping and turning patchy. Finishing the last pass with a heavier drag is the right call, it hides any shallow spots from earlier and gives the whole slab a uniform look that keeps the inspector quiet. Once you dial in the right bristle for your local mix, you stop getting flagged altogether.
