Had a chat with a salon owner that made me rethink my pricing

I was talking to this woman who runs a salon in Denver and she straight up told me she charges $150 for a cut and blowout because she factors in her retirement savings and health insurance. At first I thought she was crazy, but then I added up what I'm losing by not doing the same. Has anyone else factored overhead costs into their service prices?

Man I heard a barber in Chicago say the same thing, he charges $80 a cut and breaks down exactly what goes into it like rent and supplies. Makes you wonder if we're all leaving money on the table not being upfront about costs.

Used to roll my eyes at people charging that much, thinking they were just greedy. Then I sat down and did the math on what I actually spend between booth rent, insurance, and the random supplies I eat the cost on. @diana_black22 is spot on, if barbers and stylists broke down the numbers for clients more often, nobody would bat an eye at $80 or $150. It's wild how we're taught to feel bad about charging what we need just to stay afloat. That salon owner in Denver is smart, she's not leaving her future up to luck.
