I swore by my old way of mixing color for years, but a client's hair changed my mind

For the longest time, I would mix my permanent color in a bowl with a brush and start applying it right away. A client with very thick, long hair came in last week and by the time I got to her ends, the color had started to thicken and didn't take evenly. My coworker, Jen, saw me struggling and said, 'Try mixing it in a bottle with a nozzle, it stays wet longer.' I switched to a 16 oz. tint bottle for her next appointment and the application was smooth from roots to ends. Has anyone else found a better way to handle color on dense hair?

I keep a spray bottle with water on my station for thick hair. A light mist on the brush or in the bowl mix keeps it workable longer without watering down the formula. What developer strength were you using for that application?

That spray bottle trick from wyattc76 is actually pretty smart for thick hair. It makes sense because a little water keeps things moving without ruining your mix. Just don't go overboard and turn your color into soup.
