Jarred 40 pints of salsa and finally cracked the cost per jar
My neighbor's throwaway comment about her farmers market stand getting killed by grocery store deals made me actually sit down and run the numbers on my own salsa. After 6 months of selling at the local swap meet in Tucson, I figured out my real cost is $2.10 per jar including labels and gas, which finally pins down where I can discount without losing money. Anyone else find that tracking every little expense changes how you price your stuff, or am I just the weird one who likes spreadsheets?

That bit about tracking gas really hit home. My buddy runs a small hot sauce setup and he swore his costs were lower until he added in the drive to the farmers market twice a week, turns out he was basically breaking even the whole time.
