My sourdough starter cracked the jar last night after 3 weeks of feeding

I had this glass jar I'd been using since April for my starter, and it just gave out with a loud pop around midnight. Now I've got flour goo all over my counter and need to save what's left before baking day tomorrow. Has anyone here switched to a plastic container for their starter without ruining the rise?

3 weeks in and your starter decided to pull a midnight escape act, classic. I switched to a plastic deli container from my local pizza place like a year ago and honestly my starter is lazier now, barely doubles in size compared to glass. Glass holds heat better, plastic lets it fluctuate, maybe that's my problem or maybe my starter just got comfortable. Did you save enough goo to rebuild or are you starting from scratch?

Funny you mention the plastic container thing. My buddy Dave had a starter he'd been keeping alive for like 15 years, the thing was basically a family heirloom. He switched to a plastic takeout container one day because he lost the lid to his glass jar. Within a week the starter went totally flat and started smelling like nail polish remover. He panicked and went back to glass, but it took him almost a month to get it back to its normal bubbly self. @hall.nora is probably right about the temperature thing, sourdough is a diva like that.
