Tried selling my sourdough at the farmers market in Tucson and sold out in 40 minutes, but not how I expected
I brought 24 loaves to my first market last Saturday thinking I'd sell maybe half. A guy from a restaurant two blocks over bought 18 of them in one go for his brunch service and I was basically cleaned out by 8:40am. I stood there for three more hours with an empty table feeling like a genius and an idiot at the same time. Turns out I should've priced them higher and baked way more, since I basically gave away my whole morning of work to one buyer. Anyone else get wiped out by a single wholesale order before they figured out their retail pricing?
One buyer taking most of your stock isn't a disaster, that's a restaurant that now knows your name and will probably order every week. You didn't get wiped out, you got a steady customer, and standing around for three hours with nothing left to sell is way better than standing there with 20 loaves at noon.
