Realized I was rating soundtracks based on my mood not the music itself

I always gave horror game scores low marks until I put on the Silent Hill 3 OST during a calm afternoon and finally heard what it was actually doing. Took me 5 years and a random thread here to figure out I was just angry at the genre. Anybody else catch themselves doing this with certain media types?

Wait, five YEARS of hating horror soundtracks because you were mad at the genre? That's wild... I gotta respect the dedication though.

See, I don't think it was about holding a grudge so much as it was about having a weird mental block. I didn't hate the music itself, I hated how it made me feel when I was in a bad place with the genre. It took me awhile to separate the soundtrack from the movie experience. Once I did, I realized I was missing out on some really good composers. Funny enough, it was John Carpenter's simple synth scores that broke me out of it.

Ngl man I had to read that twice to make sure I wasn't trippin'. Five years is a whole era of life you just gave up on soundtracks because you were salty at the genre? That's some serious commitment to holding a grudge. I get being annoyed but that's like burning all your music CDs over one bad album.
