I thought my old man's trick of using a stick to check ground pressure was nonsense until I tried it on a job in Tulsa last spring

What was the ground like in Tulsa that made you a believer? I've seen guys swear by that stick method on soft fill and clay, but it seems like it would read different depending on moisture. Curious if you tested it against a real gauge or just went off feel.
