Switched from a 90 ton to a 130 ton on a hospital job in Phoenix and man what a difference

We had this hospital tower going up in downtown Phoenix, tight site with zero extra room. For the first 3 weeks we were running a 90 ton Grove trying to set steel and duct banks. That thing was working so hard, had to keep repositioning every other pick because we couldn't reach from one spot. The operator I was relieving looked beat every day. Then the GC finally swapped us to a 130 ton Liebherr and suddenly we could reach the whole footprint from a single setup near the loading dock. Didnt have to keep moving mats or dealing with the crane leveling twice a shift. That extra reach and capacity just made everything smoother. Way less setup time, way less stress. Has anyone else had a job where a bigger crane actually saved them time instead of just costing more?

Man that sounds like a total game changer. I've seen jobs where we tried to make a smaller crane work and it just ate up everyone's time and patience. Sometimes the bigger rig really is the smarter call even with the higher rental.
