The jobsite in Odessa that made me drop my pre-lift meeting habit
I used to run a full pre-lift meeting every single morning, but after a big job in Odessa last fall, the guys on the crew said I was wasting their time and making them late. We skipped it one day because the foreman was rushing us, and the load swung wrong because nobody checked the tagline placement ahead of time. Anyone else find that skipping the meeting actually caused more problems than it saved time?

Ugh, see this is exactly why I don't buy the "meetings waste time" argument. I get the crew wants to get moving, but five minutes to check tagline placement and swing path is nothing compared to a load swinging wrong and shutting the whole site down for hours. Had a near miss on a tilt-up job once where nobody talked through the pick plan, and we spent the rest of the day untangling that mess and dealing with safety. The guys who gripe about the meeting are usually the same ones who gripe loudest when something goes sideways.
