Dropped $75 on a '1,000 prompts' pack from a writing site and half of them are just Mad Libs with extra steps
I saw a Facebook ad for this pack from a site called PromptVault and figured it would keep me busy for months. Turns out 400 of them are the same five ideas with different words swapped in, like 'write about a haunted house' but with 'haunted' replaced by 'cursed' or 'mysterious.' I could have made a better list myself with a free afternoon and a notebook. Has anyone found a prompt source that actually feels fresh, or do you just write your own stuff?
I did the exact same thing last year with some pack off Etsy, 300 prompts for like $40, and at least half were just the same thing reworded. Mine had like six versions of "describe a room from a character's point of view" where the only change was the room. I kept a running list of the repeats just to see how bad it was, and by the end I'd found 47 prompts that were the same idea wearing different hats. Now I just grab one random word and one random place and force myself to mash them together, costs nothing and somehow works better than the stuff I paid for.
