Vent: That $40 password manager felt like a waste until my old email got hit

I bought a year of a password manager for about $40 last fall and honestly thought it was just extra work. Then a few weeks ago, I got a bunch of alerts about someone trying to log into an old Yahoo account I still used for some things. Because the manager had made a unique, strong password for it, they couldn't get in. It would have been a real mess if that old account was a gateway to other stuff. Has anyone else had a close call that made a basic tool suddenly worth it?

Wait, have you ever had an old account actually tied to something like a credit card or bank alert? I think people underestimate how much leverage an old email can have if someone gets in and starts resetting passwords on other sites. My wife had a similar close call an old AOL account from college was linked to her PayPal and a couple store logins. It was a real eye opener how deep that trail went without even thinking about it.

Seriously, how much damage could an old Yahoo account even do?

Wait, what if it's tied to your old bank alerts?
