Vent: getting a Denver parking permit took me 11 weeks and three trips to the Webb Building
Just a heads up for anyone moving into a permit zone around Cap Hill or Baker, do not assume this is a quick errand like I did. I started the residential parking permit thing back in early April thinking it would be one online form and a sticker in the mail, and it dragged out 11 weeks and cost me three separate visits to the Webb Building on Colfax. The first trip I got turned away because my lease was a scanned copy and they wanted the original with the landlord's signature on it, which took my landlord six days to get back to me on. Then the DMV registration had my old apartment on it still, so I had to update that first, and of course the DMV took its sweet time mailing the corrected one. By the time I came back the second time, the person at the counter said the address on my proof of insurance did not match either, so I had to call my insurer and wait on hold for a while to get a new card emailed. Honest to god, nobody tells you all three documents have to line up exactly or they just hand your folder back. Third trip finally went through, but I had been getting $50 tickets on my own street for weeks by then, which is just insulting. Did anyone else get stuck in this loop, and is there a faster order to do all this stuff in so the next person doesn't lose two and a half months?
Eleven weeks sounds rough but honestly some of that is just normal paperwork stuff that anyone should expect. The lease needing an original signature is annoying but it's not crazy for a city office to want the real thing, and the DMV mailing delay is out of their hands. The insurance card mismatch is on you for not checking it first, though I get that nobody tells you the rules up front. The $50 tickets sting but that part is kind of on the city's system being slow, not some big conspiracy.
Does it help to know my buddy once waited almost four months for a library card because of one wrong digit on his ID? Same energy as the DMV mailing struggle, just less tickets involved.
