Blew a 6-month referral partnership at the Detroit Economic Club lunch because I forgot to follow up on a lead

I was sitting at the DEC last Tuesday shaking hands with a guy who runs a commercial real estate firm, and he mentioned he sent me three emails about a client needing office space and I never replied, so I had to admit right there that I dropped the ball and now he's probably never sending me another lead again.

Man, that's brutal. I've been there with a missed follow up at a Chamber event before and it's that sinking feeling when you realize you let something good slip. Three emails is a lot to miss though, I bet that guy was pretty annoyed sitting there having to bring it up in person. Hope you get a chance to rebuild that bridge somehow.

Three emails with no reply means you basically ghosted a guy who was actively trying to give you money. Your best move is to send him a handwritten apology note this week, no excuses, just "I messed up and I'm fixing my system so it never happens again." Then follow up with a gift card to a lunch spot near his office, enough for him to take a client. Did this after I blew a lead from a builder at a golf outing, took me six months of small consistent touches to get back in his rotation. Make it about what you learned and how you'll make it right for him going forward. That's your only play now.
