Hit 500 injector rebuilds and something clicked

Kept a log on my phone since 2019. Just passed 500 injector rebuilds across all brands. Cummins, Cat, Detroit, you name it. Turns out the last 100 went way faster than the first 400. My bench setup changed too, better vices, proper sockets, less cussing. Hit a point where I can tell a bad injector by how it feels when you pull it. Not the test numbers, just the resistance in the housing. Started teaching my apprentice my little tricks. He asked why I bother tracking the count. Told him it proves the reps are worth it. Anyone else keep a count on a specific job and find it changed how you work?

You ever notice how the muscle memory kicks in around the 300 mark on any job? I did the same thing with flare fittings, kept a tally for a while. It stopped being about speed and more about not second guessing yourself, you know? Once you trust your hands, the work gets quieter and your brain can focus on the weird stuff instead of the basics. Your apprentice is lucky, most guys just guard the tricks till they retire. Good on you for passing it along before the count even hit 500.
