My shop air compressor finally died after 18 years

I been using the same old quincy compressor since I opened my shop in 2006. Last week it started making this nasty grinding sound and I knew it was time. I picked the Ingersoll Rand over the Sullair because parts are easier to get around here and it's been running smooth for 3 days now. Anyone else have luck with either brand for heavy use?

18 years is solid. That Quincy served you good. I see this all the time. People baby their first tool then replace it quick when it fails. You gotta pick what works for your area. Parts availability is key. I've seen guys buy the cheapest unit and then spend three times as much trying to keep it running. You did it right.

Maybe it's just me but 18 years on a shop compressor sounds about average if you keep up with oil changes. Is it really that big of a deal to swap brands mid-stream?
