Old timer at a truck stop in Ohio changed my mind about DOT inspections

I used to rush through pre-trips until a veteran driver at a Pilot in Ohio stopped me and said 'slow down, that 5 minutes just saved your license.' He showed me a cracked brake chamber that I totally missed. Any of you had a close call that made you take inspections more seriously?

All that extra time poking around under your truck is wasted minutes you could be rolling. DOT is just looking for an excuse, they'll find something even if you spend an hour looking.

That's just how it is with ANYTHING these days. You try to cover your ASS and they STILL find something to nitpick. It's like the whole world is set up to catch you slipping instead of letting you just DO the job.
