Pro tip: I quit replacing glow plugs on spec and my cold start comebacks dropped to zero
Everyone in my shop swaps all 8 glow plugs on a 7.3 Power Stroke the second a cold start gets rough, but I started ohming each one first at the harness. Turned out 4 of 5 trucks I checked at my bay in Waco only had 1 or 2 dead plugs, so I was pulling 6 good ones for no reason and risking the threads on old heads. My comeback rate on cold start jobs went from 3 a month to zero since March, and customers quit paying for parts they did not need. Has anyone else seen a shop push the all 8 rule just to save diag time?
Ohming them first is just smart, and shops skip that step cause flat rate pays better on the full set. I've watched guys yank 8 good plugs and then wonder why a head thread strips on a 20 year old truck.
