Figured out I was exporting my layers flat the entire time, a $0 fix in GIMP woke up my whole workflow
Been posting my digital pieces on here for a bit and always wondered why my shadows looked muddy after export. Turns out I was merging all my layers before saving as PNG instead of keeping a layered file and exporting a copy, so any tweak meant starting a shadow pass over from scratch. Spent about 3 hours last Tuesday redoing a portrait bust because of it and that was the moment it clicked. Kept a .xcf next to every PNG now and my last two pieces took 40 minutes less each. Feels like a small win but honestly my line work finally stays clean when I go back to edit. Anyone else have a dumb export habit they broke that made their whole process faster?
Three hours redoing a portrait bust over a flat export? That makes my stomach drop just reading it... all that work gone because of one save habit. Keeping the .xcf next to every png is such an easy fix that it almost hurts to learn it this late.
