Got roasted by a Procreate user for my layer management at a meetup

A dude at the SF digital art showcase last month said I was wasting time merging everything early, and he was totally right. Now I keep way more layers for editing later and my workflow is way smoother - has anyone else gotten humbled by a random stranger's advice?

Wait, isn't merging early just keeping things tidy instead of drowning in a hundred useless duplicate layers? I've never had a problem flattening as I go, and it keeps my file sizes from getting insane.

Wait, have you ever tried to go back and fix something after you've flattened everything? It's a nightmare... you lose all that flexibility, and if the client wants a tiny change to the stroke on a logo from three layers down, you're stuck recreating the whole thing from scratch. File sizes aren't that big of a deal these days with good drives and cloud storage, but time lost hunting for mistakes? That's real. I'd rather have a few messy layers I can tweak than one clean mess I can't touch...
