The average person checks their phone 96 times a day, I only believed it after tracking myself

Saw that stat in a Guardian article last week and thought no way. So I used the screen time app on my iPhone for 3 days straight. Day one was 112 checks. Day two was 89. Day three was 104. I was genuinely shocked because I never feel like I'm on my phone that much, but it adds up with all the little glances. Has anyone else actually counted themselves? I'm wondering if the real number is higher for people who use social media vs just texting.

And just to add another layer to that, you're probably picking your phone up even more than the counter shows because it only counts when you unlock. I did the same test and noticed a ton of times I'd grab my phone, check the lock screen for a notification, and put it back down without ever unlocking it. That doesn't even count as a check in most apps, so the real number for me was probably closer to 130 a day. Social media definitely made it worse too, I deleted Instagram for a week and my checks dropped by like 40%, the little glancing habit is way more tied to that stuff than to actual texting.
