Bought a $600 portable monitor in Chiang Mai
Worked from cafes and hostels for 3 months. That second screen was a lifesaver for coding. Screen broke after a drop in Bali though. Anyone found a rugged one that lasts?

Andrew's got a point about that UPerfect one with the metal back.

That comment about the metal back UPerfect monitor caught my interest because I actually read something similar on a travel tech blog a few months back. The blogger had put one through the wringer on a year-long trip across Southeast Asia and said the metal construction made a big difference compared to the plastic ones he'd had before. He dropped his off a motorbike seat onto pavement and it just had a small scuff on the corner, screen was fine. I've been keeping that in mind ever since because I'm pretty clumsy with gear myself. Makes me think that extra bit of build quality is worth it for people like us who are rough on things.

Man that really stinks (and in Bali of all places, which is already a rough place to lose a piece of tech). I feel your pain though, I've been through a few portable monitors myself and it's always the drop that gets you not the actual screen wearing out. For what it's worth the one I've had the best luck with is the UPerfect one with the metal back and the little kickstand thing, it's taken a couple tumbles off hostel bunks and still works fine. The other thing I'd say is maybe look into a decent case or even just a padded sleeve, because no screen is going to survive a drop on tile or concrete no matter how rugged it claims to be. I've seen guys online swear by the Asus ROG Strix ones for being tougher but they're way heavier and pricier, not really a travel friendly option in my book. Hope you find something that works and doesn't break the bank or your heart again.
