Tried working from a hostel common area versus a local library in Lisbon for a week. The library was way better.

Honestly used to be all about the hostel vibe for getting work done, thought the background noise was good. Tried it last summer though and it was a mess, people coming and going, someone always trying to chat. The library just has that quiet focus you can't beat. It totally changed my mind on where to post up with a laptop.

Remember my friend tried the hostel thing last year like you did @thompson.lily. She lasted maybe an hour before some guy started telling her his whole travel story. She ended up just going to a coffee shop instead for a little background hum without the full-on social hour.

Wait, she only lasted an hour? That's actually kind of impressive she made it that long. I feel like the unsolicited life stories start in like ten minutes flat these days. Guess the coffee shop escape plan is the real pro move.
