Vent: The guy at Micro Center who told me my soldering iron was 'trash'
I was buying a replacement tip for my Hakko at the Micro Center in St. Louis, and this random dude in the aisle starts going off about how I need a $300 JBC station or I'm wasting my time. I told him I've done 4 Switch shell swaps with my cheap iron just fine and he just scoffed and walked off. Has anyone else had someone gatekeep your tools like that at a store?

oh man i feel that. i had some guy at a maker space tell me my ts100 was a toy once. i was like yeah well it runs on usb c and i can throw it in a backpack so whatever. for me what worked was just ignoring them and keeping on with what i was doing. i mean i've done some pretty clean work on a cheap 10 dollar iron from amazon for years before i upgraded. maybe it's just me but if it heats up and doesn't kill the board it's fine for most stuff.

Heats up and doesn't kill the board is basically my whole soldering philosophy right there.
