Can we talk about the time I tried to patch a hole with toothpaste

My landlord in my old apartment said to use toothpaste for a quick fix on a nail hole, so I did. A week later it turned this weird yellow color and started crumbling, so I just bought a $5 tub of spackle and did it right. Anyone have a better cheap fix for small wall damage?

Yeah that yellowing is the worst part, it looks like old teeth stains on your wall. Harper_Wright is totally right about spackle being the move, but honestly I've used a bar of white soap in a pinch for tiny holes. You just rub it over the spot and the wax fills it, but it only works if you're about to paint anyway. My friend's landlord told her to use toothpaste too and she ended up with ants because it was the mint kind.

That bit about the MINT toothpaste attracting ants is a whole new level of bad. Landlords giving out that advice should be fined. Spackle is literally made for walls, it's cheap, and it dries white. There is no universe where toothpaste is a better choice.

Toothpaste is a total trap, just use spackle.
